Deion Sanders Thanks Supporters After Revealing He’s Cancer-Free Following Surgery
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is thankful for all of the well-wishes he has received after revealing he underwent surgery to remove his bladder following a cancer diagnosis.
In a post on X, Coach Prime thanked his supporters for their prayers and messages.
Sanders held a press conference on Monday, along with his doctors, to announce he had been diagnosed with cancer on April 14 and had surgery to remove the tumor from his bladder on May 9.
One of Sanders' doctors said the type of cancer Sanders had typically has a high chance of recurring, so it was best to move forward with surgery as soon as possible to remove the bladder altogether.
Sanders revealed he has lost around 25 pounds due to health issues and complications from the surgery. He is also still dealing with urinary problems by saying, "I can't pee like I used to pee."
Despite still recovering from the offseason health issues, Sanders has said in no uncertain terms he intends to keep coaching and doesn't feel like he needs to defer more to his assistants.
Prior to announcing the specifics of his health issues, Sanders revealed he had to make out a will.
Sanders is entering his third season as Colorado's head coach. The Pro Football Hall of Famer has led the Buffaloes to a 13-12 record over the past two seasons. Their nine wins last year were their most in a single season since 2016.
Colorado will open the 2025 season at home against Georgia Tech.
