Sanders' doctors explained that a cancerous tumor was discovered in his bladder, and it was successfully removed. One of his doctors later added that the type of cancer he had would've had a high chance of recurrence, so he wanted to "move forward with the curative option, which was the bladder removal."

An 18-minute video was posted to YouTube on Monday detailing Sanders' bladder removal surgery:

Sanders was fully transparent as he spoke about his experience during the press conference, revealing that he lost 25 pounds while dealing with his health issues and complications from surgeries. He admitted that he's still dealing with problems using the bathroom, saying, "I can't pee like I used to pee."

Despite his ongoing recovery, Sanders definitively said that he's committed to coaching at Colorado for the 2025 season and beyond. He said he will make the necessary adjustments to deal with his health issues while coaching the Buffaloes.

"You're going to see a port-a-potty on the field. It's real," he said.

When asked about how much he would lean on his coaching staff this season, Sanders confidently responded, "I don't have to rely on them. I'm back, baby. I'm with them."

The 57-year-old added that even after he heard his cancer diagnosis, his mindset never changed, saying, "I always knew I was gonna coach again. ... It was never in my spirit, in my heart, that God wouldn't allow me to coach again. Never thought like that."

Sanders thanked his family and rattled off a long list of supporters who were present throughout this process. He said fellow Hall of Famer Randy Moss, who also recently had cancer, called him every other day to check on him.

In a recent video posted to YouTube, Sanders revealed that he had to make a will as he dealt with his health issues.

During the press conference, Sanders stressed the importance of prioritizing your health.

"Men, everybody, get checked out," he said. "Because if it wasn't for me getting tested for something else, they wouldn't have stumbled up on this."
