Dyson Daniels, Hawks Agree to 4-Year, $100M Contract Extension After All-Defensive Nod
Dyson Daniels and the Atlanta Hawks agreed to a four-year, $100 million rookie contract extension on Monday, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
Hawks star point guard Trae Young quickly took to social media to celebrate Daniels' new deal:
The 22-year-old Daniels enjoyed a breakout season in his third NBA campaign, averaging 14.1 points on 49.3 percent shooting, 5.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and a league-high 3.0 steals per game. He won Most Improved Player of the Year and finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year race behind Cleveland Cavaliers big man Evan Mobley. In addition, Daniels landed on the NBA All-Defensive First Team.
Daniels initially landed in the NBA after the New Orleans Pelicans selected the Australian with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft. He mostly came off the bench over two seasons, averaging 4.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 20.0 minutes per game.
In July 2024, the Pels traded Daniels to the Hawks alongside E.J. Liddell, Larry Nance Jr., Cody Zeller and two first-round picks for Dejounte Murray.
That fresh start was exactly what Daniels needed, and he's flourished in Atlanta.
Entering this season, Daniels was entering the final season of a four-year rookie deal after the Hawks picked up their 2025-26 club option on him last October. He was due for restricted free agency in the summer of 2026.
So it's understandable that Atlanta wanted to sign Daniels to an extension before letting him potentially walk next year, and a new deal has now materialized.
