Terence Crawford Talks Underdog Status vs. Canelo Alvarez, 'Odds Can't Fight For Him'
Terence Crawford isn't concerning himself with the betting odds saying he will be an underdog against Canelo Álvarez on Sept. 13.
Speaking to TMZ Sports to promote the bout (starts at 1:25 mark), Crawford said the "odds can't fight for him" and they "don't matter."

Crawford did provide some insight on what type of fight he's expecting Álvarez to bring.
"He's the bigger man," Crawford said. "I expect him to box a little bit, but I also expect him to try to walk me down and be the bigger man."
Crawford can take advantage of his arm length to cause problems for Álvarez. Bud's reach is listed at 74 inches, compared to 70.5 inches for Canelo. The ability to avoid hard contact will be crucial for Crawford because Álvarez likes to be the aggressor and pressure opponents into fighting on their heels.
Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Álvarez is a minus-190 favorite (bet $190 to win $100) to win. Crawford is plus-150, giving him implied odds of 40 percent.
The 37-year-old Crawford has continued to dominate as he has gotten older, though his in-ring output has slowed down in recent years. He will enter the bout with Alvarez carrying a 41-0 record with 31 knockouts.
Crawford has been on a one-fight-per-year schedule since 2020 after previously working twice per year. The showdown with Álvarez will mark his first time in the ring since defeating Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision in August 2024.
Álvarez has a lot to prove in this fight, as well. His last bout against William Scull was widely criticized with neither competitor seeming to try all that hard, with just 445 total punches thrown in the 12-round fight.
Per CompuBox, the 445 combined punches thrown were the fewest it has tracked in a 12-round bout. Álvarez only threw 152 punches, marking the fewest by an individual fighter since CompuBox started tracking stats.
The Crawford-Álvarez superfight will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sept. 13.
