Wyndham Clark Hopes Oakmont Forgives Him After Ban, Says He 'Did Something Awful'
After being banned from Oakmont Country Club for damaging a locker at the 2025 U.S. Open, Wyndham Clark is expressing remorse and hoping that he will get the chance to play at the course again in the future.
"I did something awful, and I'm really sorry for it," Clark told reporters Sunday after the final round of the 2025 British Open, per ESPN's Mark Schlabach. "Hopefully, they have it in their heart to forgive me, and maybe in the future I'll be able to play there."
Clark, who tied for fourth at the British Open with an overall score of -11 after shooting 6-under 65 on Sunday, acknowledged that the decision on whether or not he will play again at Oakmont belongs to the club itself.

NFL coach calls CFB transfer players 'clowns'
"That's up to them," he said. "I really don't know. I would hope so. It's a fantastic course and place, but that's up to them."
Oakmont Country Club president John Lynch sent a letter to club members earlier this week announcing that Clark was banned following multiple discussions between the United States Golf Association and the club's board. Schlabach noted that the letter said he would be permitted to return to Oakmont if he "pays for damages, makes a 'meaningful contribution' to a charity selected by the club's board, and undergoes counseling and/or anger management therapy."
Clark has a 10-year exemption for winning the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club, and Oakmont will host the U.S. Open again in 2033. He said he is committed to adhering to the club's guidelines for the ban to be lifted.
"We reached out, and we wanted to do that," Clark said. "Obviously, it's a no-brainer to pay for the damages. That was a given. Then obviously all the apologies, and I want to give back to the community because I hurt a great place in Pittsburgh, so I wanted to do anything I can to show them that what happened there was not a reflection of who I am and won't happen again. But I want to show them who I really am with the apology and the things I'm going to do."
