Daniel Dubois definitely earned another crack at Usyk. He bounced back from his loss to the Ukrainian with three consecutive knockout victories, including a fifth-round knockout of Anthony Joshua to retain the IBF title.
The core intrigue in this bout comes down to whether Dubois has improved enough to make things more interesting this time around. He'll have the homefield advantage and the confidence that comes with a belt around his waist.
“I’ll bring chaos to the ring and win by any means necessary," he told Tris Dixon of Boxing Scene. "I want to turn up the heat and bring the chaos, restore the victory and that’s what I’m on.”
The problem is that Usyk hasn't showed signs of slowing down at 38 years old. Since beating Dubois he has maintained his unbeaten record with back-to-back wins over Tyson Fury.
Usyk's trainer, Jakub Chycki, hasn't seen signs of aging in his fighters preparation.
"He is able to perform the same training loads, the same type of training, we see he's a little bit stronger, generates more power," Chycki told James Regan of ESPN.
"The aerobic capacity is on the same level. So in my opinion we don't see the symptoms of aging now. So it's a good prognostic for the next fight.
The Cat has proven himself to be the superior technical fighter. His first win over Dubois was a one-sided affair.
Dubois has the power to make things interesting, though. The IBF champion did have one moment in their first fight where a punch on the beltline sent Usyk to the mat, but it was ruled an illegal punch.
That could be a harbinger of things to come in the rematch. Usyk will likely win the vast majority of the exchanges, but it only takes one punch for Dubois to turn the tides.
That will be a fun dynamic throughout the night, but it still feels like Usyk can ride his tactical advantage to a victory.
