Jalen Brunson Says It Was 'Weird' Seeing Myles Turner Leave Pacers for Bucks Contract
Just a few months ago, Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks fell to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. Shortly after, a key member of the Pacers left in free agency.
Myles Turner signed with the Milwaukee Bucks on a four-year, $107 million deal, a move Brunson called "weird" after Turner spent his entire career with the Pacers.
"I thought the Myles Turner thing was weird," Brunson said on the Roommates Show (57:30 mark). "Like he just said, 'It's been a decade here' and all this stuff and everything, and then, boom, gone."
Brunson wasn't the only one surprised to see Turner move on from the Pacers after their NBA Finals run. Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard said he was "shocked" after Turner signed with the Bucks.
"I was shocked. If I'm being perfectly honest, again, I thought we were kind of going back and forth in an open way," he told reporters earlier this month. "We've done big deals with that agency, and they're great guys and we'll be doing more business with them. But Myles must've heard something in that (Bucks offer) that said, 'I'm gonna take it right now.'"
ESPN's Shams Charania reported after the signing that Turner wanted to stay in Indiana this offseason, but "believed he was getting below market value offers from the Pacers." Turner also said the move to Milwaukee gives him "a chance to remain competitive."
Although Turner might have had his reasons for signing elsewhere, the decision to move on from a team that had just made the Finals left many fans perplexed, and Brunson found it to be an odd move as well.
