Myles Turner Says Bucks Contract Was 'Chance to Remain Competitive' After Pacers Exit
Myles Turner expressed his desire to remain in a competitive market after leaving the Indiana Pacers — his lone franchise for 10 years — to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks.
"For me, ultimately it was about just staying competitive," Turner told reporters. "Two years ago, we got to the conference finals. Obviously, last year we got to the Finals. Being a big part of winning basketball just changed my entire perspective on this league. I saw a chance to remain competitive here."
Turner broke his silence Thursday in a social media post, thanking the city of Indianapolis for 10 years after being drafted by the Pacers in 2015 out of Texas with the No. 11 overall pick.

During the 2022-23 season, Turner averaged a career-high 18.0 points per game along with 1.4 assists, 2.3 blocks and 7.5 rebounds, while shooting 37.3 percent from deep and 54.8 percent from the field.
Since his draft, the Pacers have made seven playoff appearances, including five consecutive first-round exits, an Eastern Conference Finals loss and one NBA Finals loss.
Now, the 29-year-old heads to Milwaukee to join former MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo in hopes of capturing his first NBA championship after signing a four-year, $108.9 million deal.
"It's a rarity to be alongside him. He's a generational player, arguably one of the greatest players to play this game." Turner said about joining forces with Antetokounmpo. "I'm sure we're going to talk here in the weeks to come. I've played against Giannis for quite some time now. Very familiar with his game and what he's capable of. I do see a seamless fit. He's someone that is able to push the ball, get out in transition, create for people. He's developed a jumper."
Turner, who recorded a team-record 46 blocks during the Pacers’ run to the Finals, will be a stellar addition on both ends of the floor for the Bucks heading into the season.
