Dustin Poirier Says Lil Wayne Will Walk Him To Octagon for UFC 318 Fight vs. Holloway
UFC star Dustin Poirier is officially set to close out his legendary career in grand fashion.
While speaking to reporters for media day on Wednesday, Poirier confirmed that rap star and fellow Louisiana native Lil Wayne will walk him to the Octagon for his retirement fight against UFC BMF champion Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 318 on Saturday in New Orleans.
While Poirier has typically been known to use James Brown’s "The Boss" as his walkout song in this stage of his career, it was Lil Wayne's voice blaring through the speakers for his first-ever UFC fight in 2011. Back then, he utilized Lil Wayne's "Drop the World" as his walkout song multiple times.
When his retirement fight became finalized earlier this year, Poirier made it clear that it would be special for him to have his fellow statesman accompany him to the Octagon.
"If Lil Wayne wants to walk me out in New Orleans, I’ll walk out to Lil Wayne in my last fight and switch it up from James Brown," Poirier said during an episode of The Ariel Helwani Show in April. "If he does 'Drop the World,' I’ll come out to it."
Despite never winning an undisputed UFC championship, Poirier has long been a fan favorite thanks to his exciting style of fighting. He already owns two wins over Holloway, and he earned the interim lightweight championship in their second fight in April 2019 at UFC 236.
Fans will undoubtedly be hyped to see Poirier and Holloway face off once again, and Lil Wayne's presence during Poirier's walkout will make the night even more special.
