Twitter Reacts to Liverpool's Victorious Friendly in Bangkok
Liverpool kicked off their Raheem Sterling-free pre-season tour Tuesday with a bout against an assembled XI of "Thailand All-Stars" in Bangkok. In 90-degree heat and balmy conditions, Brendan Rodgers gave a run-out to the likes of Jordan Rossiter, Joao Teixeira, Divock Origi and Joe Maguire—as well as debuts for new boys including Danny Ings and James Milner. Pre-match, Adam Lallana was clearly raring to go:
Despite the challenging conditions and unfamiliar XI, the Reds needed only three minutes for Lazar Markovic—playing higher up the field than he is typically instructed—to put them one to the good. The message to Rodgers from fans on Twitter was clear:
Liverpool fans, however, were warned not to get too encouraged by the Serbian's performance:
"Markovic scores a goal against Thailand and Liverpool fans now saying he's one of the best young talents in Europe. pic.twitter.com/H4coqeZ748

A few minutes before half-time, Liverpool went 2-0 up when Mamadou Sakho put his head on the end of a Teixeira cross. The Portuguese 22-year-old was replaced by James Milner at half-time, but started trending thanks to an excellent performance that saw him assist on both first-half goals:
As the second half kicked off, the skies opened to give monsoon conditions for the remainder of the game:
"The rain in the Liverpool game is mental!
— Brett Woodyatt (@BrettWoodyatt_) July 14, 2015"
Despite the heavy precipitation, Lallana made it 3-0 shortly after the break. The goal came as a result of a sublime Rabona assist from Jordan Henderson. "Hendo" started trending accordingly:
"Love Stevey G....but i think him now gone from Liverpool will see Hendo's game upped to another level. #outfromtheshadows

Lallana replaced debutant Ings, who also trended thanks to a performance that saw him cruelly denied of his first goal for the club. The former Burnley man was apparently quite "lively":
"Ings looks very lively. Heh

Origi struggled during his loan at Lille last season, but the Belgian was in good form in Bangkok, sealing a 4-0 result with an excellent header a few minutes from time. The Reds faithful were impressed:
"Brilliant goal by Origi, looked very sharp! Said last year he was a top talent, had a poor time at Lille, no way a bad player. #LFC
— Rooster Cogburn (@IrishYeats) July 14, 2015"
"Origi with the brilliant header.. And he's only what 19? #FutureStar #LFCTour2015
— Brad (@bradjpereira) July 14, 2015"
"Origi & Benteke could be lethal.

Those watching the game on LFCTV were treated to the analytical insight of Mark Lawrenson. Apparently, the Liverpool-star-turned-pundit was not received too well:
"Can't listen to Mark Lawrenson for much longer, it's killing me
— Dom Murphy (@dommurphy_) July 14, 2015"
""If it's warm outside, doesn't that mean your muscles are already automatically warmed up?" - Mark Lawrenson on sports science.
— John Locke (@SuarezNutmeg7) July 14, 2015"
"Mark lawrenson saying toure has never let us down completely forgetting the 39 own goals he seems to of managed in the last 2 seasons
— Jamie (@jamiethwaite18) July 14, 2015"
"On James Milner: Commentator "When you're from Yorkshire you've gotta love Rugby" Mark Lawrenson "Well, you've gotta love something"
— Inderjeet Singh (@IAmIndyBraids) July 14, 2015"
Many were particularly puzzled by Lawro's thoughts on Joe Allen's beard:
"Of all things to criticise Joe Allen, Mark Lawrenson chooses to talk about his beard.
— Little Robín (@Allezmeric) July 14, 2015"
Aside from the commentary, Liverpool's Thai tie was treated with near universal praise for all involved. Gauging the temperature of Reds fans, one Twitter observer came to a reasonable conclusion:
Perhaps it's time to consult the bookies.
