Two judges scored the fight 97-93, while the third called it a draw (95-95).
This was a closely contested fight, so much so that the two landed the same amount of punches (70). The slight difference was in the power punches, with Taylor landing eight more (57-49).
This fight wasn't as active as their other two bouts, but there were a few notable sequences, including both fighters engaging in a great exchange to end the third round.
Ultimately, the biggest difference may have been the last two rounds, where Taylor was clearly the better fighter and the aggressor.
After the fight, the two champions showed great respect for one another.
Serrano and Taylor headlined an all-women's card that included four prelim fights and four main card bouts. The event aired on Netflix, and it was co-promoted by Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions.
Taylor and Serrano first faced off on April 30, 2022 in New York in a fight long billed as the biggest women's boxing match of all time. Taylor, the undisputed lightweight world champion, was putting her belts on the line. Serrano was a seven-division world champion looking to make it eight.
Needless to say, the two delivered. Taylor won the fight via split decision: 94-96, 97-93, 96-93. The match itself received many accolades, including Event of the Year for Ring) and fight of the year for Sports Illustrated and CBS Sports.
After that fight, Taylor defeated Karen Carabajal in Oct. 2022 by unanimous decision to defend her lightweight titles.
Meanwhile, Serrano earned unanimous decision wins over Sarah Mahfoud and Erika Cruz to retain her featherweight titles.
Taylor and Serrano were then set to face Serrano in a rematch in May 2023 in her home country, Ireland, but Serrano suffered an undisclosed injury in Feb. 2023 and could not compete.
So Taylor then challenged Chantelle Cameron, the undisputed super-lightweight champion. She lost via majority decision in May 2023 but won her belts back (also via majority decision) in Nov. 2023.
Meanwhile, Serrano healed from her injury and rattled off three straight wins against Heather Hardy and Danila Ramos (both featherweight title defenses won via unanimous decision) and then Stevie Morgan in a second-round TKO in a non-title fight.
That led up to the sequel, which was the co-main event of the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight, which took place in November 2024 at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Per Jose Alejandro Bastidas and Loree Seitz of The Wrap, the match, which aired on Netflix, averaged 74 million live viewers globally with an average minute audience (AMA) of 47 million. It stands as the United States' most-watched professional women’s sporting event in history.
Once again, it was a closely contested fight. Taylor won again, earning 95-94 scores on all three judges. But the decision wasn't without controversy. Serrano explained.
The point deduction was via a headbutt that opened a gash on Serrano's head, as relayed by Tim Capurso of Sports Illustrated.
"She kept headbutting me," Serrano said. "We knew from the first fight it's what she does. Not only my fight, she did it with Chantelle Cameron. She uses her head."
Serrano later followed up with another post.
Serrano entered Friday with a professional record of 47 wins, three losses and one draw. Her first loss ever was to Frida Wallberg via unanimous decision in April 2012. Serrano then went on a 28-match win streak over 10 years before falling to Taylor the first time. Ultimately, Serrano is so great that she's challenged herself in different weight classes and taken on all boxers.
Taylor has proven to be a great opponent, though. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist entered the fight with a pro record of 24 wins and a loss. She's beaten every opponent on her record, having taken down Cameron after avenging her defeat. Ultimately, Taylor is one of the best female boxers of all time, alongside Serrano and Claressa Shields.
