Faith Kipyegon, Beatrice Chebet Set World Records on Video at Prefontaine Classic
With a blazing time of 3:48.68, Kenyan middle-distance star Faith Kipyegon shattered her own world record in the women’s 1,500 meters at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday.
Her previous mark of 3:49.04, set nearly a year ago, was eclipsed as she once again solidified her dominance in the event.

But Kipyegon wasn’t the only one rewriting the record books on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, fellow Kenyan standout Beatrice Chebet set a new world record in the women’s 5,000 meters with a stunning time of 13:58.06—finishing just ahead of Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay, the former record holder.
Chebet not only claimed the record but also became the first woman to break the 14-minute barrier in the event, beating Tsegay’s previous world record of 14:00.21 set in 2023 by more than two seconds.
The reigning Olympic champion had come close before, clocking a personal best of 14:03.69 in June, but obliterated that mark in Eugene with a performance that stamped her name in history.
