USA Routs Puerto Rico in Women's AmeriCup as Fans Hype Olivia Miles, Hannah Hidalgo
The USA Women rolled to a dominant 80–62 win over Puerto Rico on Monday in their third game of the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup, improving to a perfect 3–0 in group play.
They currently sit atop Group B with six points after opening the tournament with a 108–47 blowout over Chile on Saturday, followed by an 80–43 rout of Colombia on Sunday.
Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo led the charge with 10 points, three rebounds and two steals, while teammate Olivia Miles added nine points, seven rebounds and eight assists. South Carolina’s Joyce Edwards also continued her strong tournament showing, finishing with nine points and four steals.
Team USA fans flooded social media to celebrate Miles, Hidalgo's and the team’s red-hot start, as the squad remains the team to beat in the 2025 AmeriCup.
Puerto Rico held a brief lead early in the first quarter, going up by as much as four after a mid-quarter three-pointer. But Team USA responded quickly — a deep shot from Gianna Kneepkens tied things up and Flau’jae Johnson knocked down a three to close the frame, giving the U.S. a 20–15 advantage after 10 minutes.
The second quarter proved shaky for Team USA, as they committed nine turnovers and struggled to find a rhythm. They clung to a narrow one-point lead heading into the break.
After halftime, the U.S. came out firing. A 7–0 run set the tone for a dominant 25–8 third quarter, stretching the lead to 18 heading into the final frame. It was a balanced effort, fueled by Miles, Hidalgo, Raegan Beers, Grace Van Slooten and Madison Booker.
Puerto Rico traded buckets with Team USA early in the fourth, attempting to cut into the deficit and briefly trimming the gap to 13. But the Americans never let up — key shots from Beers, Kneepkens, Van Slooten and Miles sealed the win.
With the victory, Team USA improves to 3–0 and will get a day of rest before returning to action Wednesday against Mexico.
