Nickeil Alexander-Walker Reportedly Eyed by Clippers, Pistons, Hawks More in NBA FA

Nickeil Alexander-Walker, an impending unrestricted free agent, is reportedly being eyed by the Los Angeles Clippers, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic in free agency, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.

"Those highly anticipated returns of [Naz Reid] and [Julius Randle], however, have increasingly painted Alexander-Walker as the odd free agent out in Minnesota," Fischer wrote on Saturday for the Stein Line newsletter.

"The Clippers, Hawks and Magic have all continued to be mentioned as possible destinations for the scrappy 3-and-D guard. Saturday's emergence of Detroit as a potential bidder for Alexander-Walker follows our publisher Marc Stein's reporting all week about Sacramento's serious interest in signing Schröder away from the Pistons."

The former Virginia Tech star has played six NBA seasons for the New Orleans Pelicans, Utah Jazz and Timberwolves. He's spent the last two-plus seasons with the Timberwolves and played a big role off the bench for a team that's made back-to-back Western Conference Finals.

The 6'5" shooting guard, who turns 27 on Sept. 2, averaged 9.4 points on 43.8 percent shooting (38.1 percent from three), 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season. He played all 82 regular season games for the second straight year, starting 10 while averaging 25.3 minutes per contest.

Alexander-Walker is coming off a two-year, $9 million contract. One can guess, given his success with a contender and the reported interest from at least four suitors, that his next contract will be more lucrative.

Longtime NBA insider Marc Stein reported in May that Alexander-Walker could be looking for a deal around the $14.1 million non-taxpayer midlevel exception. He also called the Magic "a team to watch."

It appears there are at least four teams to watch now as the free agent market for Alexander-Walker heats up.
