Hawks Reportedly Have 'Moved On' From Idea of Hiring Masai Ujiri After Raptors Exit
The Atlanta Hawks have “moved on” from the idea of hiring former Toronto Raptors president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
After announcing the hires of Bryson Graham as senior vice president of basketball operations and Peter Dinwiddie as senior vice president of strategy and analytics, the team still plans to name a new president — but it won’t be Ujiri.
However, one source close to the organization said the Hawks will operate with General Manager Onsi Saleh as their “top executive for the foreseeable future,” according to Stein.
The update comes after a successful draft week for Atlanta, which included acquiring Boston’s Kristaps Porziņģis and selecting Georgia’s Asa Newell with the No. 23 pick — a player who, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer, was originally targeted by the Hawks at No. 13.
The front office – even without a president – appears to be gaining momentum as the Hawks continue to build a stellar roster in their offseason.
