Flagg was the No. 1 overall pick in this year's NBA draft, which came as no surprise. He won National Player of the Year honors as a freshman at Duke last season after averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. The Mavericks had only a 1.8 percent chance to land the No. 1 overall pick, but Flagg is now set to become the future of their franchise.

Fans will get their first look at Flagg in a Mavericks uniform on July 10 when he faces L.A. That team will undoubtedly feature Bronny James, the 2024 second-round pick who dominated G League regular-season action (21.9 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 5.3 APG, 1.9 SPG) last year. James did see limited action over 27 NBA games, averaging 2.3 points in 6.7 minutes per game. His best outing was a 17-point effort versus the Milwaukee Bucks on March 20.

Elsewhere in summer league, San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper was widely considered a lock to go second overall as the draft neared closer. It's easy to see why, as he averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 48.4 percent from the field during in his lone season at Rutgers. B/R's Jonathan Wasserman had Harper ranked second on his final big board.

Shooting guard VJ Edgecombe, who was third on the final B/R big board, went No. 3 overall to the Philadelphia 76ers. His new teammate, Paul George, compared him to six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler on his podcast. Edgecombe excelled on both ends at Baylor, averaging 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

Charlotte Hornets wing Kon Knueppel and Utah Jazz guard Ace Bailey rounded out the top five in the draft.

Knueppel looks like a great fit for a Hornets team that sorely needed another starting-caliber wing to slide in between guard LaMelo Ball and forward Brandon Miller. He had a 59.0 percent effective field goal percentage in his one season at Duke, per Basketball-Reference, while averaging 14.4 points per game and making 40.6 percent of his threes.

Bailey, who was widely considered a top-three prospect for nearly the entire predraft process, could be a steal for the Jazz at No. 5. He excelled alongside Harper at Rutgers, averaging 17.6 points on 46.0 percent shooting and 7.2 rebounds. Bailey has lofty goals in year one, hoping for Rookie of the Year and even an All-Star Game appearance.

The road to a potentially great season begins soon enough.
