Scouting Report for New York Knicks Undrafted Free Agent Signing Dink Pate
The New York Knicks have signed free agent Dink Pate after he went undrafted in the 2025 NBA draft, according to Jonathan Givony of ESPN.
Pate was a highly touted high school prospect who forwent college basketball for a chance to play in the G League.
Although he struggled to have an impact there (he averaged 9.4 points on 9.3 shot attempts per game over two seasons), his age (19), positional size and athleticism suggest a team with time to develop him could still uncover a rotation player.

Realistic Pro Comparison: AJ Johnson
1 of 3
The vision for Dink will be similar to what the Milwaukee Bucks and Washington Wizards saw with AJ Johnson.
They have good size for ball-handlers, creativity and scoring ability, but they need to improve their shooting and decision-making.
Fortunately, there is plenty of time for both.
Strengths
2 of 3
Positional Size: At 6'6" with a near-6'10" wingspan, Pate has the prototypical wing's frame and has plenty of time to fill it out as well.
Creation: His role changed a bit in 2024-25, but during his first G League season, Pate averaged a solid 3.6 assists in just 23.6 minutes per game. That kind of passing could be a game-changer for him.
Weaknesses
3 of 3
Shooting: Over his two seasons in the G League, Pate had some truly woeful shooting numbers. Hit hit only 27.6 percent of his three-point attempts and made just 38.9 percent from the field overall. If he can't figure out how to become even an average shooter, his NBA career may not last long.
Awareness: Though not unusual for a teenager, Pate often appeared to be reacting to plays just a half-step or so late on both ends of the floor. In the NBA, that's a recipe for time on the bench.
