Joel Embiid Expected to Be Ready 'Right Around' 76ers Training Camp amid Injury Rehab
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last April, is progressing well in rehab and should be ready "right around" training camp, per president of basketball operations Daryl Morey.
Embiid was held to just 19 games last year primarily due to left knee issues. He previously had meniscus surgery on his left knee in Feb. 2024, causing him to miss a couple months. Embiid did return for the end of the regular season and 2024 playoffs.
However, it was clear last season that Embiid was bothered by the knee. In 2023-24, Embiid averaged 34.7 points on 52.9 percent shooting, 11.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. In 2024-25, those numbers dipped to 23.8 PPG on 44.4 percent shooting, 8.2 RPG and 4.5 APG.
The 76ers obviously need the 2022-23 NBA MVP at his best to have any chance of competing for a title. Philadelphia went to the second round of the playoffs from 2021-2023 before ending its season in the first round in 2024. Then the 76ers bottomed out last year, going 24-58.
A healthy Embiid would obviously go a long way toward a rebound, so it's a great sign that Morey believes he'll be ready right around training camp, which would give him a good run-up to the regular season.
