Nets Reportedly 'Signaling' They Won't Trade Down in 2025 NBA Draft amid Rumors
The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly prepared to head into the 2025 NBA draft with all five of their first-round picks.
ESPN's Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo reported on Wednesday morning that the Nets are "signaling to teams around the NBA that it's unlikely they move down" from the franchise's top pick at No. 8.
Keeping the eighth selection means the Nets "are guaranteed to end up landing a player they've targeted throughout the draft process," according to Givony and Woo.
Givony and Woo noted that the "front office is not deterred by the idea of adding five first-rounders, a scenario that is certainly in play right now."
The Nets added a fifth first-round pick by taking on Terance Mann's contract as part of the three-team deal that sent Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday.
After drafting at No. 8, the franchise is currently set to come up on the board again at No. 19, No. 22, No. 26 and No. 27.
In their final mocks ahead of the 2025 NBA draft, Givony and Woo joined Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman in projecting the Nets to draft former Texas guard Tre Johnson at No. 8.
Wasserman wrote that Johnson's shotmaking at Texas, where he averaged 19.9 points per game while shooting 42.7 percent from the field and 39.7 from deep, "has teams picturing a high floor and instant, translatable offense."
Johnson told reporters on Tuesday that he has worked out for the Nets in addition to the Charlotte Hornets (which hold the No. 4 pick), Utah Jazz (No. 5) and Washington Wizards (No. 6.)
If Johnson slips past those three teams, however, keeping the No. 8 pick could potentially allow the Nets to allow a high-volume three-point shooter who could give the team the kind of immediate offensive boost they're looking for.
The 2025 NBA draft is set to begin on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET in Brooklyn.
