Scouting Report for Dallas Mavericks Undrafted Free Agent Signing Ryan Nembhard
The Dallas Mavericks have signed free agent Ryan Nembhard to a two-way contract after he went undrafted in the 2025 NBA draft.
Nembhard led the nation in assists last season, averaging 9.8 per game as a senior at Gonzaga and claiming the often-forgotten NCAA assist title.
The 22-year-old was also named first-team All-WCC in both 2024 and 2025.
Nembhard, brother of Indiana Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard, began his career at Creighton, where he earned Big East Freshman of the Year honors before transferring to Gonzaga.
He started all 134 games of his college career, never missing a single one.
Nembhard's measurements at the combine ranked near the bottom in both height and wingspan, which isn't promising. And his limited range raises questions about how much he can stretch defenses at the next level.
Of course, he is a highly touted prospect for a reason. True facilitators still hold value in the NBA, and his vision, decision-making and consistency give him a strong foundation, especially if he develops enough offensively to keep defenses honest.
Nembhard ranks No. 50 on B/R NBA draft expert Jonathan Wasserman's Prospect Big Board.

Realistic Pro Comparison: Tre Jones
1 of 3
Nembhard's playmaking smarts and skills remind of Chicago Bulls point guard Tre Jones.
Neither is a major scoring threat, but both can run an offense without turning the ball over, and they both fit the mold of a high-octane, high-IQ reserve backcourt rotation player.
Strengths
2 of 3
- Passing IQ
- Defensive Playmaking
- Mid-Range Scoring
Nembhard could have a long NBA future ahead as a potent passer who limits mistakes and runs an efficient offense. At least, that's one way he can make up for his undersized frame and lack of shooting range, along with making smart plays on defense.
Weaknesses
3 of 3
- Size/Athleticism
- Range
- Versatility
Nembhard shares a last name and basketball savvy with his older brother, Andrew, but that’s sort of where the similarities stop.
The younger Nembhard is an expert decision-maker, but he lacks size (5'11", 176 lbs) and doesn't pose much of a scoring threat.
