Open Championship 2015: Dates, Location and Latest Golf Odds
Jordan Spieth and company are set to face-off in golf’s third major of the year, as the 2015 British Open Championship at St Andrews tees off on July 16.
The Open Championship lost one of its major stars when Rory McIlroy pulled out after rupturing ankle ligaments while playing soccer, according to ESPN’s Jason Sobel.
The No. 1 player in the world will not have the opportunity to defend his victory at last year’s British Open. The Northern Irishman likely would have been close to the top of the odds leading into the tournament after finishing fourth at the Masters, tied for ninth at the U.S. Open and winning the WGC-Cadillac and Wells Fargo Championship so far this year.

The weekend leading up to the British Open featured two tournaments saw two promising American golfers bring home wins. In the midst of impressive 2015 campaigns, Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth are among the favorites to win at St Andrews.
Rickie Fowler
Rickie Fowler won the Scottish Open, finishing one stroke better than fellow American Matt Kuchar and Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin with a score of 12-under par.
With the pressure on, Fowler scored three-under in the final four holes on Sunday and gave himself the opportunity to earn a one-stroke win with a birdie on the 18th hole.
Fowler will look to hit more efforts like this wedge shot to get him within two feet of the last hole at Gullane on Sunday.
Fowler will look to improve on his 14th-place finish from when the British Open was last played at St Andrews in 2010. Overall, Fowler has shown the ability to compete in majors in the recent past. However, Fowler did not show well at the U.S. Open, and he finished 12th at the Masters. Looking back even further, though, the 26-year-old posted top-five finishes in all four the majors in 2014.
The stylish golfer is adding substance to his flair, and he also won the Players Championship this year.
Jordan Spieth
Back in the United States, Spieth won his fourth tournament of the year after topping Tom Gillis in a playoff at the John Deere Classic.
Spieth finished the weekend 20-under par, including this shot to help him finish three-under on the final day.
Spieth led the field heading into Sunday but struggled to find his stroke early in the day. However, the 21-year-old showed mental strength late on to avoid mistakes and outlast Gillis.
The Dallas native looks wise beyond his years and showed the ability to win with a lead at the Masters and close out a tough tournament at the U.S. Open.
Prediction
Jordan Spieth will win at St Andrews, increasing the spotlight on the 21-year-old heading into the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
Similar to every other major tournament, eyes will be focused on the usual contenders such as Phil Mickelsen, Adam Scott and Tiger Woods, following his positive performance at the Greenbrier Classic.
St Andrews is the scene of the year’s third major. Will the historic course feature a repeat major winner, or will it thrust a new name into the spotlight? Spieth will ride his hot streak and win his third consecutive major.
