Latest on Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga Ahead of 2025 NBA Free Agency Amid Bulls Rumors
Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga may need to wait for some dominos to fall before his future is settled.
NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat could be potential suitors for the upcoming restricted free agent this summer. Fischer reported that Chicago has had an "ongoing interest" in Kuminga and have explored trades for him in the past.
"Sources say that Chicago has as an ongoing interest in the 22-year-old forward," Fischer wrote. "This tracks with past interest that the Bulls have shown in Kuminga in previous trade discussions with Golden State over the past two seasons involving players such as Alex Caruso, Zach LaVine and Nikola Vučević."

Fischer also reported that the Heat could look to Kuminga as a backup plan if Kevin Durant does not head to South Beach this summer.
"The reality for Kuminga is that a clearer read on his summer landscape is unlikely to reveal itself until Kevin Durant's trade future is resolved and the NBA's most accomplished scoring forward widely regarded as available has a new team," Fischer wrote. "There is a belief among some rival teams, for example, that Miami could emerge as a potential Kuminga suitor — among various guards and swingmen that the Heat could target — if Pat Riley and Co. do not win the Durant Trade Sweepstakes."
While Chicago and Miami could be solid options, Fischer reported that a return to the Warriors is still "the most likely outcome."
Kuminga just finished his fourth NBA season and averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 47 games for Golden State in 2024-25.
He could thrive in an increased role, but the addition of Jimmy Butler midseason did cut into his playing time. He only made one start in the postseason and Miami and Chicago are both in need of some increased talent.
Chicago went 39-43 and missed the postseason for the third consecutive season. Miami went 37-45 but advanced through the play-in tournament before falling in the first round.
Whether as a first preference or a backup option, Chicago and Miami should be teams to monitor if Kuminga is unable to come to terms with the Warriors.
