
NBA Legend Vlade Divac Undergoes Emergency Hip Surgery After Motorcycle Accident
Basketball Hall of Famer Vlade Divac underwent emergency hip surgery on Friday due to a motorcycle accident in Montenegro.
Per the Associated Press, Divac suffered a broken hip after falling off his motorcycle in an accident that occurred near the Montenegrin Adriatic Sea coast.
Ljubica Mitrovic, a spokeswoman for the hospital treating the 57-year-old, told the AP the former NBA All-Star is in stable condition and being monitored by the staff.
"During the day, a surgical procedure was performed," she said. "He is in a stable general and physical condition and is under a careful supervision of the medical staff."
Per Serbian newspaper Informer (h/t BasketNews.com), Divac was unable to stand due to the severity of the injuries he sustained. He had an articial hip implanted during his surgical procedure.
The Serb played 16 seasons in the NBA with three different teams from 1989 to 2005. He was named to the All-Star team during the 2000-01 season. His No. 21 jersey was retired by the Sacramento Kings in 2009.
After his playing career ended, Divac remained in the NBA initially as a scout for the Los Angeles Lakers. He returned to the Kings as a member of their front office in 2015, working his way up to become general manager and president of basketball operations for five seasons before stepping down in August 2020.
Divac was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019. He was also inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in the class of 2010.
