John Deere Classic 2015: Leaderboard Scores and Highlights from Friday

Joe PantornoJul 10, 2015

The John Deere Classic saw its second round start up on Friday with a pair of title-less golfers on the PGA Tour, Justin Thomas and Nicholas Thompson, leading the field going into the day.

Some big movers have made their way to the leaderboard after successful second rounds, as the tournament's top players are not exactly household names in the golfing world.

Thomas continues his hold on the lead after another nice day at TPC Deere Run. With birdies on three of his first six holes, his fast start allowed some room for error, as a bogey on 13 did not hurt his score much.

He finished at four under on the day and is 12 under overall for the tournament. The PGA Tour takes a look at some of his birdie numbers:

It was a historic day for Thomas, according to the Golf Channel's Justin Ray:

Thursday's co-leader, Thompson, was not able to keep up with Thomas. His two birdies were cancelled out by three bogeys, two straight on 14 and 15, as he ended the day one over par, dropping to seven under for the tournament.

Jordan Spieth started the day tied for 101st with a first day that saw him shoot even. He came alive in Round 2, going seven under.

He started on the back nine with a three-under and then saw a hectic front nine play out with three birdies, a bogey and an eagle on two. The PGA Tour showed highlights of Spieth's day.

Johnson Wagner was one of the biggest movers of the day, as an eight-under performance launched him up 35 spots to second place, one stroke back of Thomas at 11-under.

With an even score on the day going into the sixth hole, Wagner recorded birdies on seven of his next eight holes. He added another on 17 to cap off his big day.

Tied with Wagner at 11-under is Tom Gillis, who shot six-under on the day. Going one-under on the front nine, Gillis birdied five of the last nine holes.

Among three tied for fourth at 10-under, Daniel Summerhays went four-under on the day, including this shot, which put him in a tie for the lead at the time:

He had four birdies on the back nine, including three straight on 16 through 18 for that four-under score. Two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine ensured he stayed at that mark as he prepares for the third round.

But it's Thomas who will look to keep his improbable run going into Round 3 on Saturday. More experienced golfers, like Spieth, will force the young golfer to keep reaching new heights in his short career. Look for the consistent golfers over the past two rounds, like Summerhays and Gillis, to also improve their scores that could pace the field in Round 3.
