Jon Jones Suggests He Could Vacate UFC Heavyweight Title amid Aspinall Fight Rumors
It remains to be seen whether Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall will fight each other, but the former took to social media to suggest he will give up his heavyweight title before it is stripped.
Jones also notably said, "I've made more money off of Tom being the interim champ than Tom himself," before adding, "It sucks to see the rest of the division get slowed down like this, but that has nothing to do with me. I don't pull the strings."

Perhaps the most telling part of Jones' comments came when he said he spoke to UFC about his plans "a long time ago."
He pointed out he hasn't worked out since he defeated Stipe Miocic in November, further suggesting there won't be a fight against Aspinall anytime soon. While it may be the one UFC fans are calling for, there is still no doubting Jones' legacy in the octagon as one of the all-time greats.
And the 37-year-old seems rather content at this stage, even taking to social media to point out "my body hurts everywhere if I'm being honest."
Still, MMA Junkie noted "there has been growing discontent in the MMA community over Jones' apparent unwillingness to line up a fight with Aspinall, to the point there's a petition urging the UFC to strip him of his title."
Aspinall figures to be someone who could challenge Jones, as he is 8-1 in his UFC career.
His sole loss came when he injured his knee against Curtis Blaydes in July 2022 and was unable to put up much of a fight as a result. He ended up getting revenge on Blaydes with a quick victory in 2024, adding to a resume that features seven first-round finishes in his eight wins.
But Jones' string of posts on social media suggest he may not have a chance to bolster that list of accomplishments against the veteran.
