Shams Expects Knicks to Be 'Aggressive' in Addressing Roster During 2025 NBA Offseason
The New York Knicks do not appear to be satisfied with just a conference finals berth.
During an appearance on SportsCenter, Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the team has had meetings to "evaluate" the state of the roster following their 4-2 loss to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
"I'm told the Knicks have internal meetings this week to evaluate everything from the roster, different changes they can make, especially the roster," Charania said (3:48)
He continued by saying that he expects the Knicks "to be very active and aggressive on the roster" during the offseason.
This comes after Ian Begley of SNY reported on The Putback podcast that there is "disappointment" in the loss and that there is "an urge to get to The Finals" that could potentially mean changes on the coaching staff are a possibility.
"In important corners of the organization, there is a disappointment and an urge to get to The Finals and win a championship," Begley said. "That's how they're viewing this postmortem with this club. Tom Thibodeau, from a 30,000-foot view obviously deserves to be back. He coached the team to an Eastern Conference Finals...everything points to Thibodeau being back. But given this evaluation period, to me it's a question mark until we hear otherwise."
The Knicks went 51-31 and earned the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. They outlasted the Detroit Pistons in the first round, upset the defending champion Boston Celtics in the second before falling to the Pacers in six games.
This was the farthest the Knicks had advanced in the postseason since the 1999-00 season. Still, the team made numerous additions last offseason and had hopes of reaching the NBA Finals.
While the team could be conservative in any significant changes, Charania and Begley's reports show that the franchise is considering all options to ensure success with the current core.
