Myles Turner, Naz Reid Reportedly Eyed by Pistons amid 2025 NBA Free Agency Rumors
The Detroit Pistons are interested in centers Myles Turner and Naz Reid ahead of the start of free agency, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
Stein reported on Saturday that the Pistons are "known to covet a floor-spacing big man."
"Whether the Pistons have a tangible shot at acquiring either player, mind you, is far from clear," Stein wrote.
Turner is set to hit free agency after the expiration of his current contract with the Indiana Pacers, while Reid could become a free agent if he turns down his $15 million player option with the Minnesota Timberwolves for next season.
Reid followed up his 2023-24 Sixth Man of the Year campaign by averaging a career-high 14.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists through 80 games, mostly off the bench, for the Timberwolves this past season.
He told reporters after the Wolves' elimination from the playoffs that he hadn't ruled out returning to Minnesota in a bench role, but that he "100 percent" considered himself a starter in the NBA.
Should Reid decide to part ways with the Wolves, he would need to leave through a sign-and-trade to make more than his player option with any team other than the Brooklyn Nets, per ESPN's Bobby Marks.
Turner, meanwhile, posted 15.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game through 72 games as the Pacers' starting big this season.
ESPN's Brian Windhorst recently reported that in light of the Pacers' ongoing playoff run, "ownership has indicated a willingness to increase spending next season and potentially reenter the luxury tax to keep this core together." That could potentially up the chances the Pacers are able to re-sign Turner this summer.
The Pistons are heading into the 2025 offseason with $28.2 million in projected cap space, not including the contracts of pending free agents like Malik Beasley, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Dennis Schorder, according to Marks.
Should the Timberwolves or Pacers indicate they are parting ways with either big in free agency, the Pistons could either use that cap space, use the mid-level exception or orchestrate a sign-and-trade in order to improve on on last season's big man rotation of Jalen Duren, Isaiah Stewart and Paul Reed.
