John Mellencamp Denounces Pat McAfee Trolling Stiller, Chalamet at Knicks-Pacers Game
One of Indiana's favorite sons called out Pat McAfee for the ESPN personality's trash talk directed at New York Knicks celebrity fans Ben Stiller, Timothée Chalamet and Spike Lee.
Legendary singer John Mellencamp, who didn't use McAfee's name, said he "was embarrassed when somebody, under whose direction I don't know, called out some of the people who had made the trip from New York to support their team—and in turn, support our team." He added, "that was not Hoosier Hospitality."
During the Indiana Pacers' 130-121 victory over the Knicks in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, McAfee hyped up the Gainbridge Fieldhouse crowd by singling out Stiller, Chalamet and Lee. He described the three as "bigwigs from the big city" and implored the home fans to "send these sons of b----es back to New York with their ears bleeding."
McAfee's mic work wouldn't have been out of place in WWE, where he's a color commentator. As Stiller said on social media, it felt much less appropriate at an NBA game:
Knicks fans won't have the opportunity to respond in kind, at least for now. McAfee confirmed he won't be at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night for Game 5:
The Knicks could host Game 7 if the conference finals extend that far. With the Pacers sitting on a 3-1 lead, the odds this goes the distance aren't looking good.
It's likely going to be a while before Stiller, Chalamet and Lee are personally treated to "Hoosier Hospitality" again too.
