Celtics' Jrue Holiday Reportedly Expected to Be Eyed by Clippers amid NBA Trade Rumors
The Los Angeles Clippers will surely be looking to take the next step as a Western Conference contender this offseason, and that strategy reportedly may include targeting some championship experience in their backcourt.
Brian Robb of Mass Live reported Wednesday that the Clippers are "expected to show interest in" Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday as a trade option this offseason.
Holiday is under contract through the 2026-27 season with a player option for 2027-28, but Boston may move him this offseason in what promises to be an offseason of uncertainty.
After all, Jayson Tatum suffered a torn Achilles during the team's second-round playoff loss to the New York Knicks, which leaves his status for next season up in the air. The team is also facing what Robb deemed "a looming second apron financial crunch" and may attempt to alter its finances this offseason.
Los Angeles has been interested in Holiday in the past, as Robb noted it was one of the teams that attempted to trade for him in 2023. However, the Celtics ultimately outbid LA when they sent Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams and two future first-round picks to the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Clippers responded by trading for James Harden instead but have lost in the first round in each of the last two seasons.
Perhaps Holiday could help them get over the hump, as he is a defense-first guard who would take some of the pressure off Harden and Kawhi Leonard on that side of the floor. He is also a two-time champion, two-time All-Star and six-time All-Defensive selection with 97 playoff games on his resume.
Holiday is also accustomed to competing alongside notable stars on his team, as he and Giannis Antetokounmpo won a championship with the Milwaukee Bucks before he won another one with Tatum and Jaylen Brown in Boston.
That means he would surely be comfortable playing alongside Leonard and Harden in Los Angeles if the Clippers did complete the trade.
