Karl-Anthony Towns Says Knicks Entering 'Biggest Fights of Our Lives' in G5 vs. Pacers
New York Knicks big man Karl-Anthony Towns knows his team's back is against the wall after Tuesday's 130-121 loss to the Indiana Pacers.
"We've been a team that has kind of found a way to do the impossible when it always seemed impossible," he told reporters with his team facing a 3-1 deficit in the Eastern Conference Finals. "We just keep fighting. It's gonna be a testament to our whole playoff run. Now we have to be in one of the biggest fights of our lives and of our season."
Fortunately for Towns, he doesn't have to look back far for an example of both him and the Knicks showing impressive fight.
New York trailed by as many as 20 points during Game 3 of this series and seemed well on its way to a 3-0 hole after dropping the first two at home. A loss seemed even more inevitable when Jalen Brunson went to the bench with foul trouble in the second half.
However, Towns put the team on his back and scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to spearhead the 106-100 win and pull the Knicks back to within fighting distance.
But it was the Pacers who bounced back in Tuesday's contest to seize full control of the series and move one win away from their first NBA Finals appearance since 2000. Tyrese Haliburton was brilliant with 32 points, 15 assists, 12 rebounds and four steals, while Pascal Siakam added 30 points and a key three-pointer down the stretch.
Throw in 20 points for Bennedict Mathurin off the bench, and there was too much firepower for the Knicks to overcome.
Haliburton was the story, though, as he didn't turn the ball over once as he set the tone, picked his spots to score and kept his teammates involved. It was an ideal point guard performance and the type of showing New York will have to prevent if it is going to fight its way back into the series.
Towns and Co. will look to start doing just that Thursday in Game 5.
