Trae Young, More Not Eligible for Supermax Contracts After Missing All-NBA Team
The All-NBA team selections came out Friday and this determined which players are eligible for higher-valued contracts.
The list includes players like MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who will now be eligible for a supermax contract when he is extension eligible in 2026.

One notable omission was Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young. According to The Athletic's Joe Vardon, Young is now only eligible to sign a four-year, $229 million contract extension and will miss out on a supermax.
Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. also missed out on the chance to land a supermax extension after failing to make an All-NBA team. Due to this, he will not be eligible for a supermax extension during the 2025 offseason.
Young, who has starred for the Hawks since 2018, is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 24.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 11.6 assists for an Atlanta team that finished with a 40-42 record.
The 26-year-old is a four-time All-Star and he was named to the All-NBA Third Team in 2022. His current five-year, $215 million contract runs through 2025-26 with a player option for the 2026-27 season.
Jackson averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and two assists in 74 games for the Grizzlies in 2024-25. His efforts helped lead the team to a 48-34 record and a return to the postseason after missing out in 2023-24.
He is currently set to make $23.4 million in 2025-26 before he will be an unrestricted free agent. He received the second-most votes of players who didn't qualify, with only Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengün receiving more.
In addition to Sengün and Jackson, other notables who just missed were Ivica Zubac of the Los Angeles Clippers, Darius Garland of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings.
