Knicks' Jalen Brunson Explains Viral Video After Fouling Out in Game 5 vs. Celtics
It seemed like New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson was waving goodbye to Boston Celtics fans during Game 5 of their second-round series because he believed his team would close things out in Game 6 and not return.
But he explained that wasn't actually the case, and he was simply trying to have a bit of fun with the situation when he saw himself on the screen.

"People were like, 'Oh, Jalen's waving because he knew he wasn't going back,'" he said on the Roommates Show with Josh Hart. "No, I just fouled out in a playoff game when we're down 20 or whatever, and I just see myself on the screen.
"I'm just trying to make a positive out of a terrible, negative situation. And I see myself, quick little wave, I didn't think anything of it. And then, obviously, it's all over everywhere when I get off the court after the game."
It happened after he fouled out in the fourth quarter, which all but eliminated any realistic chance of the Knicks coming back during what turned into a 127-102 loss.
While Boston took some momentum into Game 6 in Madison Square Garden, it was still staring at a 3-2 deficit in the series and playing without Jayson Tatum after he tore his Achilles.
That proved to be too much to overcome, and Brunson and the Knicks handled the reigning champions with ease in a 119-81 win in Game 6. The guard was one of four starters to score more than 20 points as he stuffed the stat sheet with 23 points, six assists and six rebounds.
It's safe to say he made up for fouling out in Game 5.
He also guaranteed that, as he put it, the wave "aged well" because it could have been an infamous moment had the Knicks squandered their 3-1 lead in the series.
