Derrick White Says Loss to Knicks 'Sucks,' Celtics Will Never Have 'Exact Same Team'
Derrick White is aware his team missed a big opportunity.
White's Boston Celtics saw their season come to an end Friday night with a 119-81 blowout loss to the New York Knicks in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Following the loss, White reflected on the series and acknowledged that the current roster likely won't get a chance to run it back.
"It sucks, we're never getting this season back," White told reporters. "We're never going to have the exact same team again."
The Celtics earned the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference after a 61-21 regular season. They carried that momentum to a 4-1 series victory in the first round over the Orlando Magic to set up a series against a Knicks team that they had swept in the regular season.
Poor shooting and an untimely injury to star forward Jayson Tatum derailed the Celtics, who are now headed into an offseason that figures to be filled with question marks.
Not only is Tatum's status for next season hanging over the team, but as White alluded to, there's a real chance some key pieces could be traded over the summer.
