Jonathan Kuminga's Return to Warriors on New Contract a '2-Way Street', GM Says
The Golden State Warriors would like to bring back forward Jonathan Kuminga but recognize that the decision will need to be mutual.
Following the Warriors second-round loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, general manager Mike Dunleavy was asked about the team's desire to bring back the 22-year-old as he prepares to hit restricted free agency.
In response, Dunleavy said that he knows where he "see's him as a player" and that he would value bringing him back but understands that negotiations are a "two-way street."
"We'll try to bring him back, but you've got to have those conversations," Dunleavy said, per Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. "You've got to figure it out. It's a two-way street in terms of creating -- getting a new contract and all of that. So, we'll see where it goes."
Kuminga played in 51 games for the Warriors in 2024-25 and averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He fell out of the rotation when the team acquired guard Jimmy Butler and only appeared in eight of the team's 12 postseason games.
As a restricted free agent, Kuminga can sign any team but the Warriors would have "right of first refusal." Golden State is currently under the first apron and has $11.1 million in second apron space.
While the decision is up to Kuminga, Dunleavy's comments show that the Warriors remain interested.
