Kerr Says Steph Curry is Warriors 'Sun' on Offense, Playing at 'Peak of His Powers'
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told reporters that star guard Stephen Curry is the "Sun" of the team offensively and further said that the 16-year veteran is still at or close to the "peak of his powers."
This was evident during the Warriors' five-game series loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals. In Game 1, Curry scored 13 points in 13 minutes before suffering a left hamstring strain that sidelined him for the rest of the series.
Golden State won Game 1 by a 99-88 score but proceeded to lose the next four games by a combined 47 points. Understandably, the offense wasn't the same without Curry, a 10-time All-NBA player who averaged 24.5 points and 6.0 assists per game this season.
It was a disappointing end to the season, but on the bright side, it's clear the partnership between Curry and Jimmy Butler, who arrived from the Miami Heat via trade last February, was a major success. The two went 22-5 on the court together in the regular season before going 4-3 in the play-in and playoffs.
Curry and Butler are under contract with Golden State for two more years, so they'll have a chance to run it back and shoot for a deep playoff run. So there's hope for the future as the Warriors have a promising core in place to contend for a title.
