Steph Curry Talks 'Ultimate Gut-Punch' of Warriors' Loss to T-Wolves in NBA Playoffs
Golden State Warriors star point guard Stephen Curry had a chance to return from his hamstring injury if the team made it to Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals, but he's been left to wonder what could have been after Wednesday's Game 5 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
"The only solace you can really take was that we had a chance," Curry told The Athletic's Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II. "It’s kind of the ultimate gut-punch because of that. Makes it worse. You just don’t want to go out like that."
Curry had been sidelined after suffering a hamstring strain in Game 1 against the Timberwolves after playing just 13 minutes. The Warriors still managed to earn a 99-88 win to start off the series on the right foot, but they dropped the next four games without him, including two games on their home floor at the Chase Center.
In Wednesday's Game 5, the Warriors cut a 25-point second-half deficit to single digits before going on to lose 121-110.
This is the first time that Curry suffered a strained hamstring in his career, so the team was right to be cautious with his recovery. Golden State now enters the offseason imagining how things would've played out had he been available.
"I really hoped we could extend the series and I’m... I am pretty positive that if we had Steph, we’d have won this series," Warriors owner Joe Lacob told Slater and Thompson.
