Shaedon Sharpe, Blazers Reportedly Expected to Discuss New Contract in Summer

Adam WellsMay 14, 2025

Heading into the final season of his rookie contract in 2025-26, Shaedon Sharpe is eyeing a new deal from the Portland Trail Blazers.

Per HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, Sharpe and the Blazers are expected to discuss a long-term extension this summer.

This offseason figures to be a crucial next step in Portland's rebuild. The team's 13-14 record after the All-Star break doesn't stand out, but it was an improvement from the 23-32 mark before the in-season intermission.

The Blazers' 36 wins this season were their most since the 2020-21 campaign. They project to have the eighth-youngest roster in the NBA, but their projected practical cap space is $17.8 million over the estimated $154.6 million cap.

Portland also has the 11th overall pick in the 2025 draft, plus first-round swap rights with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2028 and 2030 that could be used to dangle in trade talks if the team wants to pursue any star players who might become available.

Sharpe, Anfernee Simons and Deandre Ayton will all be entering the final season of their current contracts in 2025-26. Ayton's $35.6 million expiring salary could be very appealing to teams looking for short-term cap relief and flexibility.

Simons' status could be the most intriguing storyline to follow in Portland. He has been a popular name in trade rumors leading into the offseason, but Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian recently noted his availability will likely depend on the organization's belief in Scoot Henderson being able to take over as a starting point guard.

Sharpe, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 draft, has been on an upward trajectory every year of his professional career. The 21-year-old set career-highs in scoring average (18.5 points per game) and field-goal percentage (45.2) in 72 starts this season.
