Josh Giddey Reportedly Believed to Be Seeking $150M Contract in NBA Free Agency
Josh Giddey is expected to seek a deal in the range of five years and $150 million in free agency, according to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto.
According to Scotto, "the belief around the league" is that Giddey is looking for something similar to the $150 million contract Jalen Suggs with the Orlando Magic last October.
Suggs is earning an average annual salary of $30.1 million on that deal, which is set to kick in ahead of the 2025-26 season, per Spotrac.
NBA insider Jake Fischer reported back in October that Giddey was expected to seek a minimum of $30 million in average annual value on his next deal. Fischer and Marc Stein confirmed Giddey was seeking that same amount in March.
Giddey appeared in 70 games, starting all but one, in his contract season Chicago Bulls. He averaged 14.6 points on 46.5 percent shooting from the field and 37.8 percent shooting from deep, adding 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
He likely raised the price he could command in free agency with his dominance after the All-Star break, when he averaged 21.2 points, 10.7 rebounds and 9.3 assists through 19 games.
Giddey doesn't turn 23 until October. His age and his dominance down the stretch of the 2024-25 season could appeal to teams looking for guard depth, although the contract he is seeking could limit his suitors to teams with cap space.
One of those teams could potentially be the Bulls, who are projected by Spotrac to have one of the least restrictive salary cap situations in the NBA next season. Executive vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas said during his end-of-season press conference that he believes Giddey "fits really well here, and I hope to see him here for next years to come."
