Perhaps no person is more closely associated with the '90s era of the NBA on NBC than Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan, and His Airness is coming back to the network's basketball coverage.

NBA on NBC announced Monday that Jordan will be a special contributor for its coverage on NBC and Peacock starting with the 2025-26 season:

For basketball fans of a certain age, Jordan and the NBA on NBC were almost synonymous.

After all, the NBA Finals aired on NBC during all six of his championship years in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1998.

So often broadcasters such as Bob Costas would start coverage of an NBA Finals game in the 1990s with a monologue or essay setting the stage, and so often Jordan's image would appear on the screen as the words unfolded.

By the time John Tesh's famous "Roundball Rock" started playing as a lead-in into the game, it was clear Jordan was going to be the focal point of the coverage.

"I am so excited to see the NBA back on NBC," Jordan said in a press release. "The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I'm excited about being a special contributor to the project. I'm looking forward to seeing you all when the NBA on NBC launches this October."

Logan Reardon of NBC Sports Philadelphia noted the announcement was part of NBCU's Upfront presentation on Monday and included Tesh taking the stage to play "Roundball Rock" ahead of a video message from the Hall of Famer.

Few people, if any, are better qualified to talk NBA than Jordan, who is still widely considered by many to be the greatest player in the sport's history.

His resume includes the six championships, six NBA Finals MVPs, 10 scoring titles, five league MVPs, a Defensive Player of the Year, a Rookie of the Year, 11 All-NBA selections and 14 All-Star nods.

And now it includes special contributor for NBA on NBC as well.
