Bulls Should Prioritize Giannis Trade Pursuit During 2025 Offseason Amid NBA Rumors

Erik BeastonMay 12, 2025

During an appearance on the Zach Lowe Show, NBA insider Howard Beck named Chicago as one of the cities on Giannis Antetokounmpo's desirable teams list should the former MVP and world champion and the Milwaukee Bucks agree to part ways via trade.

The Knicks, Lakers, and Clippers all make sense due to their huge markets and potential championship upsides. The Bulls, on the other hand, have not been playoff or championship relevant since Derrick Rose was winning a league MVP award and guiding his team to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2011.

A long-suffering franchise that has not been a consistent world title contender since Michael Jordan capped his legacy as the greatest of all time in 1998, a trade for a player of Antetokounmpo's calibre would inject much-needed life into the organization and give fans of the red and black something to be excited fo

Giannis is still an elite player, as evidenced by his output this past season. The 30-year-old forward/center averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists while shooting 60.1 percent from the floor. All in 34.2 minutes per night.

For comparison sake, the Bulls did not have a scorer average more the 24 and that was Zach LaVine, who was traded to Sacramento during the season.

Unlike the Knicks and Lakers, where he would have to share the spotlight with other top-tier stars, the Bulls' current situation allows Antetokounmpo to come in and establish it as his team.

Sure, Coby White and Nikola Vučević are staples of the organization, but neither is the superstar that Giannis is, nor are they the caliber of player that the Greek-born big man is.

If anything, they would benefit from playing with Antetokounmpo, who would open up opportunities for them and, most importantly, at least on paper, give them a legitimate shot at a winning season and playoff berth.

That is, if they are not packaged as part of the deal for him.

The Bulls are an organization that has seemingly made all of the wrong moves since Jordan left town, overpaying some, underpaying others, and failing to put together a championship-contending team. Oh, and dismantling the greatest dynasty the sport has ever seen.

It is unknown if Antetokounmpo would gel with the teammates already in Chicago and turn the Bulls' fortunes of the last three decades around. The organization owes it to the fans, its players, and itself to at least find out.

Explore the trade, see what it would take to bring that star to the Windy City, and if it makes sense, execute the deal. The benefits far outweigh the negatives because even if it does not ultimately net the Bulls a title, it does do something else: it makes the team relevant, something it has not been in the current NBA universe for a very long time.
