Hawks Ownership Reportedly Has Interest in Pursuing 'Established Agents' for Exec Job
The Atlanta Hawks are interested in pursuing an established agent to fill their top executive position following the departure of general manager Landry Fields in April after three seasons, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
"League sources say (Tony) Ressler, seemingly inspired by (Bob) Myers' success in Golden State and likewise by what Leon Rose and Rob Pelinka are doing with the Knicks and Lakers, has shown a significant interest in pursuing established agents to take over Atlanta's front office and team up with cap strategist Onsi Saleh, whom the Hawks recently promoted to general manager," Stein and Fischer wrote.
Fields was relieved of his duties shortly after the Hawks' 123-114 overtime loss to the Miami Heat in the play-in tournament on April 18. Atlanta has failed to reach the postseason in each of the past two seasons.
Assistant general manager Onsi Saleh, a former Golden State Warriors executive, was announced as Fields’ replacement.
Former Atlanta Hawks general manager Danny Ferry has formally interviewed for the team’s president of basketball operations vacancy, according to Stein and Fischer. Ferry played 13 seasons in the NBA from 1990 to 2003 with the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs.
In addition, Denver Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth and Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair were dismissed from their positions last month and are among those scheduled to interview for the role, according to Stein and Fischer.
Fischer reported earlier this week that Philadelphia 76ers general manager Elton Brand had withdrawn his name from consideration for the president of basketball operations job in Atlanta.
