Kevin Durant Trade Landing Spots Expected to Include Heat, T-Wolves amid NBA Rumors
The Miami Heat are "frequently forecasted" to signal their interest in Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, according to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer.
They reported there's a similar attitude toward the Minnesota Timberwolves in the expected KD sweepstakes this summer.
The 15-time All-Star is all but assured to have a new home for the 2025-26 season.
We can safely say the Suns' superteam experiment has been a bust after Phoenix finished 11th in the Western Conference. When Durant is going to be on an expiring contract, a trade serves the interests of both parties.
A number of suitors are likely to emerge once the Suns open negotiations on a swap. The 36-year-old remains an elite scorer after he averaged 26.6 points on 52.7 percent shooting. The short time on his contract might widen his trade market, too, since it could limit Phoenix's final asking price.
The Heat were linked with Durant around the February trade deadline. They'll be motivated to act after going 37-45 and getting swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs.
The idea of a rebuild is anathema to team president Pat Riley, who has already telegraphed what should be a busy summer:
The likelihood of the Timberwolves doing something big may hinge on their outcome this postseason. They're tied 1-1 with the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference semifinals, and Stephen Curry's hamstring strain gives them the upper hand for now.
For Minnesota, Durant could be judged as a piece that helps get the franchise over the top.
Unlike teammate Bradley Beal, KD doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract. He can at least try to put his fingers on the scale by making it clear he's unwilling to sign an extension with specified teams.
Maybe Durant would have his reasons to spurn Miami or Minnesota. Otherwise, they both make sense as a landing spot.
