Julius Randle Hypes 'Wolverine' Anthony Edwards After Ankle Injury Return vs. Warriors
There's no proof that Anthony Edwards' body has been infused with adamantium, but Julius Randle is open to the possibility after comparing his star teammate to a Marvel superhero following the Minnesota Timberwolves' 117-93 win over the Golden State Warriors in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals.
Speaking to ESPN's Dave McMenamin following the game, Randle said Edwards was like "Wolverine" for his ability to keep playing after Warriors center Trayce Jackson-Davis accidentally stepped on his ankle in the second quarter.
Edwards was removed from the game with 5:56 remaining in the second quarter and didn't return before halftime. He was back on the floor to open the third quarter.
Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch told reporters after the win he was concerned Edwards might miss the rest of the series when he initially saw the injury occur.
"This one, I was really worried about, actually," Finch said. "This one, I was really planning on not seeing him the rest of the game, to be honest with you."
As is often the case with the actual Wolverine, Edwards may have been awakened by the brief sting of pain and went into attack mode. He scored 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting and grabbed five rebounds in 19 minutes in the second half.
Before having his ankle stepped on, Edwards scored a total of 30 points 11-of-29 shooting in the first six quarters of the series.
If the Timberwolves are going to get the version of Edwards from the second half of Game 2, they will have a great chance to reach the Western Conference Finals for the second consecutive year.
Edwards and the T-Wolves will look to keep their positive momentum against the Warriors going in the Bay Area when they play Game 3 on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
