Steve Kerr Says Draymond Green Needs to 'Be Careful' as Warriors Star Nears Suspension
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green now has five technicals after picking another one up during his team's 117-93 road loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 2 of their Western Conference semifinals playoff series on Thursday.
Two more technicals will result in a one-game suspension, so Warriors head coach Steve Kerr understands that Green needs to "be careful" now, as noted to reporters following Game 2.
Green got technical No. 5 in the second quarter after an interaction with Minnesota Timberwolves big man Naz Reid.
Green argued with officials after the technical.
Refs didn't call a second T, and Kerr then subbed Green out of the game to in essence cool off and avoid a potential ejection.
Green has 163 regular-season technicals over his 13-year career, including at least 11 each year since 2014-15. So he obviously isn't immune to technicals, but this 2025 playoff pace isn't ideal. At this point, Green has averaged a technical a little less than every two games.
The Warriors simply can't afford to lose him given his value on both ends, but his absence would be even more noticeable now with Stephen Curry out with a strained left hamstring. He told reporters on Thursday that there is no target date for a return.
Simply put, Green needs to stay on the floor. Also, the Warriors need to bounce back after a brutal Game 2 loss where they never led and trailed 13-0 to start.
The good news is that this series is now going back to San Francisco, and the ugly loss only counts as one defeat in the best-of-seven matchup, which is now tied at one game apiece.
Game 3 is set for Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET in the Chase Center.
