Florida's Todd Golden Signs New 6-Year Contract After MCBB National Title
Florida men's basketball head coach Todd Golden signed a six-year, $40.5 million contract extension two months after leading the Gators to a national title, the program announced Tuesday.
The deal will keep Golden in Gainesville through 2031 while making him one of the nation's highest-paid coaches.
An annual average salary of $6.75 million ranks Golden among the top five highest-paid coaches in college basketball, according to USA Today. Only Kansas' Bill Self, Arkansas' John Calipari and UConn's Dan Hurley are reported to be making more.
Golden, 39, coached the WCC's San Francisco before joining Florida in March 2022. He has posted a 76-33 overall record (.697 win percentage) and made two NCAA tournament appearances in three seasons with the Gators.
He led the Gators to a 36-4 record, SEC tournament championship and an NCAA tournament title this spring. He became one of the youngest championship coaches in NCAA tournament history when he cut down the net at age 39.
Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin said in a statement that Golden had "done an incredible job getting Florida men's basketball back where it belongs."
"We believed in his vision, his competitive nature and his modern approach to the game back in 2022, and he has validated that belief in a relatively short time," Stricklin said.
Neil W. Blackmon of Saturday Down South reported that Florida gave other members of the coaching staff raises in addition to Golden's extension.
The Gators have already lost two former assistant coaches to head coaching jobs after the national title run, with Kevin Hovde taking over Columbia and John Andrzejek leaving to coach Campbell.
Florida could be hoping the extension and raises will be enough to keep the rest of the program's championship coaching staff intact heading into the 2025-26 season.
