NASCAR Truck Series at Kentucky 2015 Results: Winner, Standings and Reaction

Chris RolingJul 9, 2015

Matt Crafton slipped through a scary, wreck-littered premature finish for a win at Thursday's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series UNOH 225 at Kentucky Speedway.

With little in the way of practice time, slick conditions and one of the trickier 1.5-mile tracks standing in the way, Thursday was a flag-filled event, even featuring two of the red variety. The second red flag punctured the catchfence and ended the event early.

Here's a look at the entire top 10, with the full order available at NASCAR.com:

It was an interesting race at the 1.5-mile track to say the least.

A mixture of new rules, a bit of a wet track and an odd practice schedule left drivers searching for answers as the night's first green flag waved.

It didn't take long for NASCAR to rain down the caution flags, the first one of the night a "competition caution." NBC Sports' Nate Ryan explained:

The various cautions extended to pit road too, where at one point a renegade tire escaped and threw things for a loop. Fox Sports: NASCAR captured the hiccup:

For most of the night, the usual suspects fought it out near the lead, often going three-wide on the large track. Erik Jones, who won the American Ethanol 200 his last time out, led about 45 laps into things with Tyler Reddick hot on his trail.

Jones wound up leading 55 laps and finishing second, while Reddick wound up sixth after entering Thursday second to just Crafton on the leaderboard.

Speaking of Crafton, he took the lead with 90 laps remaining on the night and dueled Jones most of the way.

As ThorSport Racing captured, the Series leader felt good out in front:

Just as the Jones-Crafton showdown was heating up, though, other drivers helped produce more cautions with risky maneuvers in an effort to boost their position late.

Caleb Holman was one, as Fox Sports 1 illustrated:

Right after the caution lifted on Holman's accident?

Another.

Christopher Bell was the next to go into the wall, ending a promising run for a driver who hung around the top 10 for most of the day.

A few laps later?

Rinse and repeat—except upgrade it to a red flag. Spencer Gallagher, who entered the night sixth in the standings and hungry for more, went hard into the wall. NASCAR's John Morris took a closer look at the lengthy, dangerous trek Gallagher took into it:

Things got back underway once crews cleaned the wreckage and the drivers ran a few laps.

Then another red flag.

The next one came from one of the most violent wrecks fans will see all season, as Ben Kennedy's truck went up the wall and grinded on the safety barrier. A sampling of the reactions says it all:

Fox Sports recorded the wreck:

The catch fence? Ruined:

Medical personnel examined and released Kennedy in a quick manner. His truck? Not so much. Matt Weaver of Autoweek Racing looked at the aftermath:

The fence destroyed and in need of repairs so the rest of the weekend's events could occur, NASCAR waved off the remaining five laps, giving Crafton the win.

Fox Sports captured his celebration:

In other words, Crafton's daring move to steal the lead from Jones between red flags won him the day and helped to extend his lead over the rest of the competition.

Next up for the Truck Series is the 1-800-CarCash Mud Summer Classic at Eldora Speedway on July 22, where Crafton and the rest of the drivers will look to further shuffle the leaderboard.

For all involved, they can only hope the event is less eventful and as competitive as Thursday's wild ride.
