Magic vs. Celtics Playoffs Game 2 Features Lowest Over/Under of 2024-25 NBA Season
With Jayson Tatum's availability uncertain due to a wrist injury, the oddsmakers aren't expecting a lot of points between the Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference playoff series on Wednesday.
The over/under of 196.5 points is the lowest total for an NBA game this season.
The Celtics have officially listed Tatum as doubtful for Game 2 due to a bone bruise in his right wrist.
Tatum landed on the wrist in the fourth quarter of Game 1 after a hard foul by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who was called for a flagrant-1 foul. The Celtics star was able to remain in the game until the starters were pulled with just over one minute remaining, with the result in hand.
Even with Tatum playing 40 minutes in Boston's victory on Sunday, the two teams only combined for 189 points. It's only the third-lowest scoring game of the playoffs so far after Game 1 between the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets (180) and Game 2 between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers (179).
The low over/under total is much more of an indictment of Orlando's offense than the Celtics potentially playing without Tatum. He didn't even have a particularly good scoring game, finishing with 17 on 8-of-22 shooting on Sunday.
The Magic were held to fewer than 20 points in three of the four quarters in Game 1. Somehow they managed to put up 31 in the second quarter, which was the highest scoring quarter by either team in the game.
Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner were the only Magic players who scored in double figures. They combined for 59 of the team's 86 points and 24 of their 34 made field goals.
Both defenses were terrific during the regular season. The Magic ranked second in rating; the Celtics were fifth. The difference was offensively, with Orlando having the fourth-worst rating on that end of the court.
The Magic were also the worst three-point shooting team in the league with a 31.8 percent success rate. They have failed to score 100 points in each of their last three playoff games dating back to their 2024 first-round series against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
For all the old-school basketball fans who miss those low-scoring, physical playoff games, Magic-Celtics Game 2 could be the thing for you. They will tip off from TD Garden on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.
