Resuming on 343 for seven, England added 87 runs in only 14.1 overs with Moeen Ali making 77.
"6 - England have only ever lost six Tests having scored 400+ in the first innings, though five of them were against Australia. Warning.

Moeen hit 11 boundaries and a six in his third Test half-century, sharing a 52-run partnership with Stuart Broad (18).
Mitchell Starc wrapped up the innings in consecutive overs with Moeen caught at slip, trying one big drive too many, and James Anderson clean bowled for one to finish with five for 114.
"Five for Starc! Third five-for, and his first in the #Ashes, England make 430, impressive given they were 43 for 3 http://t.co/qBRa3Nxfi5

Rogers and fellow opener David Warner took the tourists to 26 without loss at lunch, but Australia lost key wickets at the start and end of the afternoon session.
Anderson extracted Warner’s outside edge, and Alastair Cook caught the abrasive left-hander in the slips for 17.

Steven Smith, the top-ranked batsman in the world, then perished for 33. He came down the pitch to Moeen but found himself in an awkward position and only succeeded in prodding to Cook at short mid-on.

However, he fell five runs short of a fifth Test century as Mark Wood induced him into playing at a delivery angled across him, and Jos Buttler took the edge behind the stumps.
"Chris Rogers last 7 inns in Tests: 95, 56, 95, 69, 57, 55, 55 - seven consecutive 50s without reaching a century, a record.

It was Wood's first Ashes wicket, and then Moeen, under pressure for his place in the side before the match, continued his fine day by picking up his second victim.
Australia captain Michael Clarke had made 38 when he came down the pitch to the spin bowler only to offer him a return catch.

Shortly before the close, Adam Voges became the third Australian batsman to get himself out in the thirties as he drove Ben Stokes straight to Anderson at short cover.
Shane Watson (29) saw the tourists through to stumps with nightwatchman Nathan Lyon (6) but they trail by 166 runs with five first-innings wickets left.

This is the first in a five-match series as England look to regain the urn they lost after a 5-0 whitewash in Australia in 2013-14.
