Celtics' Jayson Tatum 'Good' After Wrist Injury Scare vs. Magic, Joe Mazzulla Says
Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla offered the slightest of updates on Jayson Tatum after the star wing appeared to hurt his wrist during Sunday's 103-86 win over the Orlando Magic.
"He's good," Mazzulla told reporters multiple times.
Tatum echoed those comments in his postgame press conference, saying his X-ray came back clean.
It was a relatively subdued game from Tatum, as he finished with 17 points on 8-of-22 shooting from the field, though he did add 14 rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block.
Jaylen Brown also had a somewhat quiet game as well, with 16 points, while Kristaps Porziņģis only had five points on 1-of-8 shooting. But Boston was picked up by Derrick White (30 points, 7-of-12 from three) and Payton Pritchard (19 points), overcoming a one-point deficit at the half before steamrolling Orlando in the third and fourth quarters.
For Orlando, it was Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner or bust on the offensive end. The former put up 36 points and 11 boards, while the latter had 23 points. The rest of the Magic players combined to score just 27 points. Being without Jalen Suggs, who is out for the remainder of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his knee in March, played a part.
But on Sunday, it was clear that Boston's supporting cast is simply superior to Orlando's role players. That's a good sign for the Celtics if Tatum's wrist situation becomes a factor going forward, though it sounds as though all is well on that front.
