The United States men's national team will continue its run through Group A of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup on Friday evening with a match against Haiti at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET, or about 30 minutes following the conclusion of Friday's other game in Group A, Honduras vs. Panama. Both games will be played at Gillette Stadium.
The U.S. opened Group A with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Honduras on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, Haiti held Panama to a surprising 1-1 draw. Jurgen Klinsmann and the Americans lead Group A with three points through one match and, depending on Friday's other result, could secure advancement to the knockout stage or even win the group outright.

Room for improvement
The U.S. won its first match of the Gold Cup, defeating Honduras on Tuesday, 2-1. Despite the positive result, the performance left plenty of room for improvement.
Honduras dominated the opening 15 minutes of the match, creating several scoring opportunities. Ventura Alvarado, who became cap-tied to the U.S. with his appearance, had a few difficult moments and seemed unready to step into the starting lineup. Right-back Timmy Chandler struggled to cope with the speed of Honduras winger Andy Najar, who posed a constant threat during his time on the pitch.

In contrast to the defensive struggles, the U.S. performed well on set pieces, scoring both goals on such plays. Clint Dempsey netted the opener in the 25th minute after Honduras failed to clear a corner. He then added the second in the 64th minute, heading in a Michael Bradley free kick.
Carlos Discua pulled a goal back for Honduras in the 69th minute, just moments after entering the match as a substitute. That set up a tense finish in which the U.S. often looked uncomfortable defensively.
Speaking about the match, Klinsmann toldย USSoccer.com:
"I think for the first couple minutes we came out good, but then really (Honduras) took over the first 15-20 minutes. Youโve got to give them a big compliment the way they played it there. They created chances and we kind of had to come back into that game, especially our back line. Both center backs need to kind of settle. We told them to just be calm, to keep it simple and nothing complicated, but find your rhythm. I think the second half was much, much better. Youโve got to give Honduras a compliment for how they played. Those first 15-20 minutes they played really good soccer.
"
Honduras represented probably the most difficult of the three opponents the U.S. will face in the group stage. With their physical style, the Central Americans were always going to pose a serious test.
With that in mind, the U.S. will be happy to have passed the initial examination. But Klinsmann and his players will be hoping for an improved performance against Haiti.

Haiti's speedy threat
For obvious reasons, most observers would probably rate Haiti as the biggest outsiders in Group A. Ranked No. 79 in the world, the Caribbean nation has neverย won the Gold Cup in its present form.
That said, Haiti caused Panama plenty of problems with pace in the two teams' 1-1 draw on Tuesday. Substitute Duckens Nazon scored the equalizer in the 78th minute, and other attackers like Jean Alcenat, James Marcelin and Kervens Belfort created danger against the Central Americans' defense.
The U.S. defense will have to be aware of the threat Haiti can pose with speed.

Squad rotation and group scenarios
Expect Klinsmann to rotate some squad members for Friday's game. The U.S. players will have just two full days of recoveryโWednesday and Thursdayโbetween matches, and the team will have traveled from Texas to Massachusetts during that time.
That's a grueling schedule for anyone, especially international footballers. With another group game coming up on Monday, it's almost certain that Klinsmann will bring some fresh faces into his squad against Haiti.

Will he move Alvarado to the bench following a shaky showing against Honduras? Will he persist with Chandler and DeAndre Yedlin together on the right? Only time will tell.
With a win, the U.S. would be all but certain of passage to the next round. With two of the best three third-placed teams advancing, the Americans would surely have enough pointsโsixโto move on.
A victory, in fact, could even clinch first place in the group. If Honduras and Panama draw in Friday's early match, that would leave Panama with two points and Honduras with one, with both teams having played two matches. A U.S. win would give Klinsmann's side six points, an unassailable lead atop the group.
